If you've got a kid in Boston Public Schools, this one's close to home. BPS wants to close Charlestown High School, Greater Egleston High School in Roxbury and the East Boston Early Education Center in 2028, a step that would bring the district to 97 schools. The School Committee votes Dec. 2.

The proposal would take BPS from 119 schools to 97

Nearly 100 people signed up to speak against the plan at Wednesday's meeting. Superintendent Mary Skipper said this year's entering K-2 cohort is just over 3,000 students, more than 1,000 fewer than a decade ago. Boston Teachers Union President Erik Berg called four weeks "far too little time" before a final vote.

  • Charlestown High enrollment: 559, down from 820 in three years
  • Charlestown High building capacity: more than 1,000 students
  • Greater Egleston High enrollment: 76 students
