About this event
Tufts University will host the 58th Annual Conference of the Italian American Studies Association (IASA), a leading interdisciplinary organization dedicated to the study of Italian American history, culture, literature, migration, and identity. This year's conference, themed Italian Americans and the Making of America: Design, Diaspora, and the Architecture of Belonging , will bring together scholars, writers, artists, and community members from across the United States and beyond to explore the many ways Italian Americans and members of the broader Italian diaspora have shaped American society and culture.
One of the highlights of the conference will be the keynote address by Fred L. Gardaphé, a leading scholar of Italian American Studies whose work has helped shape the field for decades. A professor at Queens College/CUNY and the John D. Calandra Italian American Institute, Gardaphé has written extensively about Italian American literature, identity, migration, and popular culture. His research explores how Italian Americans have represented themselves through literature, film, journalism, and other forms of storytelling, offering valuable insights into questions of ethnicity, belonging, and cultural memory. Students interested in literature, history, migration, identity, media, or American studies will find his talk especially engaging.
Attendance is free for all Tufts undergraduate students.
