About this event
Estrangement doesn't only change who shows up at the holidays. It changes your balance sheet. Losing family can mean losing a safety net: a place to land, help with childcare, a co-signer, a financial backstop, even an emergency contact.
In this 45-minute talk, followed by 15 minutes of Q&A, we'll look at the real economic costs our community reported in the Community Needs Survey, then get practical about budgeting, building your own backstop, and protecting yourself on paper.
What we'll cover
• What our community told us: housing, work, health, and the cost of going it alone
• The hidden costs of losing the family safety net, including the "admin of estrangement"
• Budgeting from scratch: a simple framework, an emergency buffer, and planning for the hard days
• Protecting yourself on paper: emergency contacts, beneficiaries, healthcare proxies, and credit
You'll leave with
• A clear way to think about money after estrangement
• A simple budgeting framework you can start this week
• A one-page take-home checklist for building your own financial safety net
55% of survey respondents named housing security, unemployment, poverty, legal safeguarding, or access to education and information as a current challenge.
This talk is built around what you told us you need.

Hi, I'm Logan Lindabury. I'm a Board Member at Together Estranged overseeing finance and accounting. I
started my accounting career in 2011, got my MBA in 2014, and my CPA in 2018. Budgeting and personal
finance became a passion when I was a teenager and I'd be happy to share some of that with you.
No finance background needed. Educational content only, not individual financial or legal advice.
