About this event
Led by Nina Prol, an amazing and experienced instructor who is passionate about your well-being, this session promises to uplift your spirits, enhance your strength, and foster a sense of community among fellow survivors. Tailored to the unique needs of those who have experienced breast cancer, our exercises help alleviate tension, restore mobility, and boost overall well-being.
A Gentle, Evidence-Based Path to Healing
Recovering from breast cancer treatment—including surgery (mastectomy/lumpectomy), radiation, and chemotherapy—requires a specialized approach to fitness. Our Breast Cancer Pilates program is designed to help you regain your physical agency in a safe, supportive environment.
By focusing on controlled movements and diaphragmatic breathing, Pilates addresses the specific post-operative challenges many survivors face, such as axillary web syndrome (cording), chest tightness, and reduced shoulder mobility.
Key Benefits for Breast Cancer Survivors
• Improved Range of Motion: Gently stretch scar tissue and restore shoulder and arm mobility post-surgery.
• Lymphedema Management: Rhythmic, low-impact movement and deep breathing help stimulate the lymphatic system and reduce the risk of swelling.
• Core & Pelvic Floor Support: Rebuild deep abdominal strength, which is especially important for those who have undergone TRAM or DIEP flap reconstructions.
• Bone Health: Weight-bearing Pilates exercises help combat bone density loss often associated with hormone therapy (aromatase inhibitors).
• Neuropathy Relief: Balanced movements can help improve proprioception and stability for those experiencing peripheral neuropathy.
Safe & Modified Sessions
We understand that every recovery journey is unique. Our specialized instructors offer:
• Post-Operative Stretching: Focus on opening the chest and releasing tight pectoral muscles.
• Modified Mat & Reformer Work: Avoiding heavy weight-bearing on the arms during early recovery phases.
• Breathing Techniques: Using the breath to expand the ribcage and manage post-treatment anxiety.
Why Specialized Pilates Matters: Standard fitness classes may inadvertently cause strain or increase the risk of lymphedema. Our program prioritizes safety-first protocols, ensuring that movements are adapted to your specific surgical history and energy levels.
